The images are from vintage aircraft photo shoots at the Yankee Air Museum in Michigan in 2019 & 2020. Besides some great aircraft, we had reenactors and models to recreate iconic 1940s images.
The reenactors and models traveled to Michigan from around the country and are meticulous in making sure their uniforms and equipment is 100% authentic. Several of them had to check multiple stores to find cigarettes with no filter, that's how authentic they are! The equipment is also 100% authentic, down to the smallest details. Everything is period correct, including an actual WW2 map of Germany, period instruments, thermos, and other equipment. Several of the models for the WW2 pinups are wearing military outfits they made themselves based off of WW2 propaganda pictures!
The “Rosie the Riveter” images honor women in the defense industry during WWII that were essential to the American war effort. The Rosies depicted in these photos were taken at Michigan’s Yankee Air Museum and at the Owosso, Michigan Rail Yard in January 2019. They are called the Willow Run Tribute Rosie Volunteers. They honor the original Rosies who made up close to 40% of the workforce at the Willow Run B-24 Bomber Plant near Ann Arbor, Michigan. In these images they are working on an actual B-17 bomber currently under restoration at the museum.
