Frequently Asked Questions
How is the website organized?
I've got a lot of images on my website, and there are a lot of ways to organize them. The first level of organization is by region of the country, used in the menu system. On the home page each state is listed alphabetically. These include any train and lighthouse images in each state. I also have separate galleries for Lighthouses, organized by region, and for various railroads. I also have extensive search capabilities. So if you are interested in images such as "Angels", "Route 66", "Stars", or one of dozens of other search terms, just enter what you are looking for in the search bar by clicking on the magnifying glass in the upper right corner of the screen.
Unfortunately I have no images from Alaska or Hawaii (yet!)
When Will I Receive My Order?
In general, under normal circumstances,
most print and frame orders are processed, produced and shipped within 5
business days - and typically arrive in 7-10 business days. Next day and 2-day
express shipping are available, however please note that these options will not
affect processing time.
What about shipping?
All domestic prints are shipped flat and packaged very well
to protect the print. Standard shipping (domestic) starts at $5.99 and takes
3-7 days based on your location. There is also 2-Day shipping, I can also
ship internationally for an additional charge.
What is your policy on Returns/Exchanges?
I strive to provide you with a very clear picture of what you will be getting,
with the ability to zoom into images, and features like Wall Preview, and even
Live Preview AR throughout this store website. So sales are final.
Exceptions are made of course for any damage during shipping or any quality
issues with the print. If an item arrives damaged, please contact me at johnkennington@gmail.com within
7 days of receipt of the print. If possible, please include a photo or two of
the damage or other problem with the item, as well as the packaging. I will
have a replacement shipped immediately.
Do you do your own printing?
Yes and No! I do print most of my own canvas and photographic
prints that I show in my art show booth, using an Epson 7600 large format
printer. I use a lab for aluminum prints since I do not have room for that
equipment. Since I am on the road many weeks of the year either shooting or
participating in art shows, I also use a lab for fulfillment of most website
orders, otherwise it can take weeks until I can print and ship your purchase.
The most important part of either process is the image processing and
preparation. I never let the lab make any corrections or enhancements, they
simply print what I send them.
Are the prints signed?
Yes! Prints ordered on my website include a scan
of John's signature digitally printed into the bottom right of image.
This is the only practical way to handle it for lab orders. I also find this
makes the signature much more legible than signing in ink, since I can adjust
the brightness or darkness of the signature. Please contact John at johnkennington@gmail.com if you would
like to order a custom print with John's hand-signed signature.
Can I order a Triptych (a single image
broken up into three panels) of one of your images?
Absolutely! If you'd like to order an art wall of
two or more prints of one image or several related images that you don't see in
my online store, contact me at johnkennington@gmail.com and
I'll be happy to create it for you and add it to my store! Just let me know
which image or images you'd like to see, and the total area you'd like to cover.
Can I order a print I saw in your art
show booth?
Yes. Many of the prints on the wall of my booth
use custom frames not available on the website. And the specific 12x16 prints
and 10x15 canvases I offer in my booth print bins are also not on the website.
If you want to order anything specific you saw in my booth contact me and I can
send you an invoice. You can email me at johnkennington@gmail.com or give me a text at 918-809-6325.
I can’t find my favorite John
Kennington image in the gallery. Can I still order a print I saw in your art show booth?
Yes! My Fine Art store is new in late 2021, and I
am continually adding my current and images to the galleries. If there is an
image you are interested in but don’t see in the art store, please don’t
hesitate to email me at johkennington@gmail.com and I will get it added.
How do I decide what size print I need?
While the various sizes can seem overwhelming, a little
simple math will help. First, measure the blank area of the wall,
uncovered by furniture or molding. Generally, the finished size of the piece,
including mat and frame, should cover between 2/3 and 3/4 of the area. So a
wall with a blank area of 60"W x 48"H would look great with a print
no larger than 45"W x 36"H, and no smaller than 40"W x
32"H, both including any matting and framing. If you are hanging
above a piece of furniture such as a sofa or headboard, the bottom should be
6" to 12" above the top of the furniture, and the width of the print
should be 2/3 to 3/4 of the width of the furniture. When choosing art to hang
above the fireplace, leave a space of 3 to 6 inches above the mantle. The width
of the art should be wider than the firebox, but smaller than the width of the
mantle. Don't be afraid to go big! If you have a large open wall space, a large
print filling the space makes a bigger visual impact.
What Media and style should I choose?
I have selected each of the selections of printing media
specifically because of the way they display my images. Each one maintains the
color fidelity and detail of my images and will look great in any home. The
various styles are intended to offer options for different styles of decor. A
matted and framed print offers a more traditional look, while an acrylic print
or metal print has a sleek, modern look. Canvas offers a classic look
resembling a painting. Luster photo papers offer a nice shine and finish,
displaying good color and detail, and look great framed and behind glass or
acrylic. Still not sure? Try the Wall Preview feature or use a mobile device to
use the Live Preview Augmented Reality feature and see my images in the exact
space you intend to display it!
Why doesn't my print look like the
website?
Your print won't look exactly the same as what you see on
Instagram or our website. A backlit screen is much brighter than ambient
light reflecting off of a paper print. Metal and Acrylic prints do appear
to be "brighter" than paper or canvas prints. At every art show
several people will ask me if my framed metal (aluminum) prints are backlit!
Gloss metal and acrylic prints offer the
best brightness, and most of my customers are very happy with them. However, depending
on how the windows or lighting in your room is configured reflections can be a
problem, and in that case, I recommend the non-glass metal or acrylic. If the
brightness and detail of a gloss print is a “10” then the brightness of the
non-gloss version is a “9.9” and you will be happy with it.
Are the prints ready to frame?
Yes, there are several options:
1) You can order just the print and
mount and frame it yourself. Sometimes you will see "Just the Print
- Borderless" which means there is not a mat or other border around the
paper.
2) You can order the print with a
styrene (plastic) or Gatorfoam backing to make framing easier. With the
proportional white border, the prints look nice with or without additional
matting.
3) If you choose the option of a
Gatorfoam with mounting blocks no frame is needed! Your print will arrive
ready to hang. There are two Gatorfoam blocks mounted to the back to hang
the print and make it float ½” off the wall. Simple, modern, easy.
4.)
Acrylic prints arrive ready to hang with a cleat mount hanger.
3) You can also use the Crop function
when adding an item to your cart to choose a custom size, such as 8x10, 11x14,
etc. so you can print on paper sizes that match readily available frames, so
that custom framing isn’t necessary unless you want it.
All components of my prints (paper,
canvas, aluminum, mats, backing, tape, finishes, etc.) are acid-free and will
not deteriorate over time. All my prints on any medium will last without fading
for many decades.
